Text Cleaner — Fix Double Spaces, Quotes and Messy Formatting
Paste messy text and get it cleaned in one click — extra spaces, spaces before punctuation, stray line breaks, and inconsistent quotes all fixed.
What the cleaner fixes
- Double and multiple spaces collapsed to one.
- Spaces before punctuation removed — «word ,» becomes «word,» (a very common habit for speakers of languages that space punctuation, like French).
- Trailing spaces at the end of lines stripped.
- Curly «smart» quotes straightened to plain quotes (and vice-versa is one click away), so quotes are consistent.
- Excess blank lines collapsed.
Why this matters for non-native writers
Formatting noise is invisible to you but obvious to a reader — and it often comes straight from your first language's typographic rules. French and several other languages put a space before «;», «:», «!» and «?»; copy-pasting between Google Translate, email, and documents leaves behind double spaces and mismatched quotes. Cleaning these up makes writing look polished and professional before anyone reads a single word of the content.
Private and instant
Everything runs in your browser — paste, click clean, copy the result. Your text is never uploaded or stored. It is a quick last pass before you send an email, submit an essay, or publish a post. For the deeper layer — the grammar, the phrasing, the parts that make English read native — that is where Diglot's editor takes over.

Frequently asked questions
- What exactly does the text cleaner change?
- It collapses multiple spaces into one, removes spaces before punctuation, strips trailing whitespace from line ends, collapses runs of blank lines, and normalises quotation marks. It does not change your words, spelling, or grammar — only the invisible formatting around them.
- Does it fix smart quotes?
- Yes. By default it straightens curly «smart» quotes (“ ” ‘ ’) into plain straight quotes for consistency, which is what most plain-text and code contexts want. The reverse — straight to curly — is also available with one toggle.
- Will it change my grammar or spelling?
- No. The cleaner only touches whitespace and punctuation formatting. Your wording, spelling, and sentence structure are left exactly as you wrote them. For grammar and phrasing, use a dedicated checker.
- Is my text stored or uploaded?
- No. Cleaning happens entirely in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere or saved. Paste any text you like, including confidential drafts.
